Washington, DC.
Did you know you can compost your kitchen scraps and yard trimmings right in your backyard? You don't need any fancy equipment (although there are benefits to an enclosed system). Successful composting at home is all about making the beneficial microbes that live in a composting pile happy. Like us, theyneed air, water, and food.
This blog post has the video recording and useful links shared by Brenda Platt, the director of the Composting for Community Initiative at the Institute for Local Self-Reliance. In her presentations she shares the basics and tips to getting composting started for the ReWild Long Island Community, and answers our questions.
Brenda has been a home composter for more than 30 years and is a lead trainer for ILSR’s Neighborhood Soil Rebuilders Composter Training Program. In 2017, the US Composting Council awarded her its H. Clark Gregory Award for outstanding service to the composting industry through grassroots efforts. In 2019, BioCycle magazine featured Brenda as one of its organics recycling trailblazers.
