ReWild Garden at Bridgehampton School

In the Fall of 2024, the Bridgehampton School Native Pollinator Garden was established through the collaborative efforts of the ReWild Long Island Gardens Program. Mrs. de Souza, the school's agriculture teacher, is taking the lead on the project. As the Environmental Club advisor and instructor of several agriculture courses, Mrs. de Souza has integrated the garden into the curriculum, providing students of all grade levels with hands-on experience. Students will be actively involved in all aspects of the garden, from its installation and ongoing maintenance to learning about the critical role biodiversity plays in supporting pollinators.

This native garden serves as a vital component in sustaining the delicate ecological balance within our community, from our soils and shores to the pollinators and people who rely on them. It functions as an outdoor extension of the classroom, featuring picnic tables to accommodate large groups and allowing teachers to bring students outside for exploration and learning. High school students will have the opportunity to relax in the garden during lunch and recess, surrounded by vibrant flowering plants in the spring. The garden provides a peaceful sanctuary for staff members as well, offering a space to connect with nature and enjoy moments of tranquility.
