Manorhaven Elementary School Courtyard Garden
Our mission at Manorhaven Elementary School in partnership with ReWild Gardens Program is to nurture student experiences through hands on learning, responsibility and community. The garden is a resource to promote learning through science, art, math, language arts, history and social/emotional skills. Gardening develops students' responsibility to embrace nature and to care for the haven. The many student hands have diverse roles, whether watering, weeding, digging, trimming, raking, measuring, drawing, reading , or writing, each student benefits from the garden and the garden benefits from their efforts as well! The garden builds community among peers, staff and members of Port Washington.
All students are invited to use the garden to enhance their learning and gain an understanding of sustainability as a global community. Many English Language Learners in our school have participated in establishing this garden, as well as our other native garden, and they will continue to be involved in maintaining them. Facilitator, Marialina Corbo, has partnered with ReWild to gain additional knowledge of sustainable gardening and to develop a relationship with the local community organization. We look forward to watching our garden grow and blossom- just like the students of Manorhaven School!
