Peconic Community School
Cutchogue, NY
Peconic Community School (PCS) is an independent school on the East End of Long Island offering accessible, progressive education with programs from Early Childhood through Grade 8. Founded in 2012, PCS believes that the goal of education should be to make the world a better place. Our approach to education is to cultivate compassionate, reflective, resilient, creative learners in a safe and nurturing community, in pursuit of a better world. PCS implements a learner-centered curriculum -- incorporating project-based learning, place-based investigations, integrated study, and student-driven inquiry -- with a strong commitment to social emotional well-being and community building to engage and inspire the whole child. With an emphasis on place-based learning at our core, much of our academic and enrichment programming takes place outdoors, all year round, and strengthening our garden and land stewardship programming is a goal for our new permanent home in Cutchogue. PCS’s garden care will be facilitated by the entire PCS community, with students at the helm, and will include staff, faculty, parent volunteers, and summer camp participants. The gardening program will be established by a PCS Family Association parent volunteer committee.
