C-Compost: Compost to build soil, lower emissions and sequester carbon. On the daily, we produce lots of organic waste, which should be composted to store carbon, save nutrients, and feed the soil to be rich and supportive of habitats.

R-Reduce, Reuse, Recycle: Recycle what you can & reduce your need for the rest. Gardening is not an excuse to buy more, and our homes and yards produce lots of organic and plastic waste, which should be recycled and reused instead of being thrown out as junk.

O-Organic Gardening: Organic produce from your own yard have zero carbon miles. Growing from home not only provides healthy food, but also attracts pollinators to native plants and provides a space to use compost. Here, pesticides won’t harm the environment or you.

W-Water Wisely: Water wisely. Install rain barrels and rain gardens. Long Island’s waters need to be protected from pollution and recharged into the water cycle, so use rain barrels, bioswales, rain gardens, and smart irrigation systems, coupled with native plantings for support.

N-Native Plantings: Native plants sustain all life around us. Introducing native plants creates micro-habitats for a variety of insects, bees, birds, and butterflies, and spreading awareness about the importance of ReWilding promotes positive change to communities all around Long Island.
