Learn why attracting pollinators is important, how to do it & how you can join the Pollinator Pathway on Long Island with Roxanne Zimmer from the Suffolk Alliance for Pollinators.
Roxanne Zimmer, Ph.D., has been spreading the word about best garden practices for many years. In her Community Horticulture position for Cornell Cooperative Extension, Suffolk County, Roxanne offers programs about pollinator and native plant gardens, organic vegetable gardening, composting, and the key role of healthy soil. Each spring, she trains Master Gardeners. Each fall, she offers the Joy of Gardening course for home gardeners.
Roxanne recently launched the Suffolk Alliance for Pollinators, a coalition of area groups building a pollinator corridor on Long Island. As part of a grant award from the Long Island Sound Study, Roxanne will offer a Coastal Gardening course for area residents this year.
As a college professor, she’s provided courses exploring environmental issues such as fresh water and global food. She has presented at national conferences of the American Horticultural Society and the American Community Garden Association.
When not weeding, Roxanne can be found raising oysters in Peconic Bay with the Cornell Marine program.
