Do you want to learn how to create a beautiful and yet biodiverse “pocket prairie” in your front or backyard?
Join us at 3pm on Saturday, April 23rd at the Hempstead Plains Preserve. Together with ReWild Long Island and Dropseed Native Landscapes, you will go on guided tour of the Hempstead Plains Preserve with native plant experts, and will learn all about Long Island's unique grassland communities.
After the tour, you will receive step-by-step guidance on building your own 12 square foot “pocket prairie” at home. Native plant expert, Anthony Marinello, will tutor you and answer all questions on installation and maintenance.
You will also be provided with all the materials necessary create a 12 square foot pocket prairie at your home, including a 3'x4' sheet of cardboard, a 3 cu ft bag of cedar mulch, and 12 landscape plugs of native grassland plants to populate your new pocket prairie.
Nothing will grow over 3' and so these plants are perfectly suitable for front or back yards. These plants are all native to Long Island and will attract and support pollinators, butterflies, and songbirds throughout their life cycle.
A participation and supplies fee of $150 is required for this workshop, a portion of which will fund the ongoing mission of Rewild Long Island.
