Volunteer for the Summer Program to Fight Hunger and Climate Change

  • ReWild Long Island, Inc. Port Washington, NY United States (map)

The Summer Program to Fight Hunger and Climate Change mobilizes high school students motivated to fight hunger, climate change, and loss of biodiversity, and eager to learn about sustainable gardening and our regional ecosystem. This is a collaborative efforts by various groups – ReWild Long Island, Mosaic Foundation, Plant A Row for the Hungry, Science Museum of Long Island and North Shore Audubon – to mobilize youth and adults to help the environment and our community.

We seek adult volunteers who can work alongside the students and act as mentors and fellow volunteers as we plant organic vegetables and native perennials, weed and fight invasives, harvest and celebrate the seasons outdoors. All produce grown through this program is donated to local food pantries. You don’t need to be an expert to volunteer – we’ll teach you what you need to do!

The program begins on the week of Monday, June 21st and runs for 16 weeks till October 10, 2021. We request that volunteers pick at least one 2 hour slot each week to help out, and commit to at least 8 weeks of volunteering. (In comparison, our student interns are committing to four hours a week for all 16 weeks!)
