ReWild Garden at the Great Neck Synagogue

Great Neck, NY

Great Neck Synagogue is one of the oldest synagogues in Great Neck, Long Island. We take great pride in being a welcoming religious community and in providing service to our community based on the eternal values of the Jewish tradition.

One of these important values is our stewardship of this planet that we inhabit and our responsibility to preserve and protect it for future generations. We received a grant from ReWild Long Island’s Garden Program and recently transformed a section of the garden in front of our building into a native garden, involving volunteers from our synagogue members as well as students from the local Jewish day school. We hope to be able to continue the transformation of the entire garden.

Planting native enables us to demonstrate loyalty to the value of preserving the bounty of nature which God has granted us. We hope to inspire others in our community to add native plants to their gardens and outdoor spaces. Our garden continues to be a place of meditation and peace, enhanced now by a commitment to educate and inspire our community.
